The method presented has potential to identify “hidden leaders” or most influential actors who can contribute for effective management of ecosystem services and help design appropriate governance network. Environmental knowledge utilisation can be managed, that is, influencers can be targeted and directed by network intervention strategies. Proposed method can be used to maximise the diffusion of desirable knowledge with respect to urban green infrastructure implementation.

Presenting a distinct method for linking stakeholders’ network structures and effective outputs of UGI implementation. Using existing SNAs of different governance arrangements, structural position of non-state actors is related to diverse UGI implementation outputs. Results show how the different structural position of non-state actors influences the successfulness of UGI implementation, evaluated by the application of UGI planning principles. The paper argues for incorporating social network structure analysis in developing effective policies for UGI implementation processes. The work presented here has a implications for future studies of multi participatory governance arrangements.

Discussion on systematic approach which identifies (1) Vulnerability assessment in areas under different patterns of urban growth, based on climate change impact and community character, (2) Spatial assessment, or determining the spatial recourses in different areas of urban growth i.e. mapping of pervious surfaces and transformative impervious surfaces across the different land use classes, (3) Relative values of GI benefits and GI spatial elements estimated by relevant stakeholders and users and (4) Assessing the opportunities for socially and spatially appropriate strategies and policies for GI implementation in areas under different patterns of urban growth.

Presenting a method to explore the spatial opportunities for the GI implementation in the built urban matrix in the city of Vienna, in order to find out how GI could be implemented in built urban pattern from a spatial point of view. The proposed method can gather important spatial data for green infrastructure policies, focused on developing accessible, connective and functional green spaces.

X - UGI: Predictive modelling in development of available space for green infrastructure due to autonomous mobility systems

Potentials and risks for establishing urban green infrastructure (UGI) are emerging and effective solutions are required to provide new space for UGI. We will develop a quantitative and spatially explicit, integrated model X-UGI, for mapping the current urban fabric and it will conduct alternative land use scenarios for next decades, by modelling change of built up land to open green space and evaluate resulting effects. Therefore land use change conversion probabilities and transition rules will be established. The model considers distribution, size and connectivity of UGI elements, as green network linking the urban with the peri-urban. X-UGI will evaluate conversion alternatives and identify new UGI priority areas.

It aims at improving accessibility and socially inclusive mobility for disadvantaged social groups and prioritized areas.

In Fragile States context of climate change vulnerability, poverty and lack of infrastructure, the ability of ecosystem services to provide numerous human needs is indispensable. This paper presents a distinct approach by analysing actors with capacity to provide ecosystem services in urban areas: government, international partners and citizens. Using infrastructure investments data from Asian Development Bank, African Development Bank and World Bank, obstacles for ES provision are related to weak and fragmented governments, non-transparency and low assess to international funds and insufficient citizens involvement. The work presented here argues for ecosystem services implementation as a valid part of solution for Fragile States’ difficulties and has a implications for future studies of governance measures for providing ecosystem services in urban areas.

Building resilience through urban commons: a policy recommendations for atomic shelter management

This paper presents set of arguments for incorporating urban commons as a way to increase resilience of the city. Vacant fallout shelters in residential neighbourhoods are suitable case study, i.e. type of public place which could benefit from establishing commons management regime. Based on literature review on urban commons and site analysis, policy recommendations for developing urban commons on those sites are focused on needed actions from the local government and other stakeholders in “commons associations”. Assigning bundles of rights to local user groups in order to stimulate self-organising and long-term investments in active place management is a precondition for a urban common to succeed. The work presented here has implications for future studies of applicability of urban commons.

Operating energy share in total lifetime building energy is anticipated to decrease through efficiency improvements and lifestyle changes, so the significance of the embodied energy value will increase. The case study illustrates how particular design strategies make a significant impact on building’s embodied energy and life cycle energy. The aim of this study is to compare embodied energy in different building materials and to demonstrate Life Cycle Energy Assessment on the studied house.

Urban revival guidelines for the abandoned military quarters “Ivan V. Drašković”: applications of Cradle to Cradle principles

Brownfield project comprises the exstensive redevelopment of a former military quarters into flats, offices, retail, public services, parks and gardens. Cradle to Cradle theoretical framework is used as a starting point for the planning guidelines, therefore three basic principles are assigned to be implemented: waste equals food, using of solar income and enhancing diversity. A range of ways in which current development can enable transition to a more sustainable future are proposed, e.g. material, energy and water management, landuse, traffic design, models for the ecomonic profit achievement and methods for increasing social- and bio- diversity. A number of challenges, including technological and financial barriers, in the way to adopting mentioned principles are identifited.
